Abstract
Content
Transmission reciprocating clutches have been produced using lip type seals for over 30 years. The initial design used a shape now referred to as a long lip seal. Over the years the seal shape has changed and the more popular design is now the short lip seal. This paper will provide the design engineer with complete environmental data for a successful short lip seal application. There is a discussion on design practices, product testing, manufacturing technology, quality control and materials.
