Design and Implementation of a Portable Setup for Operator’s Field of Vision Testing on Construction Equipment Vehicles in accordance with ISO 5006:2017

The Operator’s Field of Vision (FOV) test, conducted in accordance with ISO 5006:2017 for construction equipment vehicles / Earth Moving Machinery, is a crucial assessment to ensure the safety and comfort of operators. ISO 5006:2017 outlines precise guidelines for measuring the visibility of operators, seated in construction Equipment Vehicles / Earth Moving Machinery, with a particular focus on the Filament Position Centre Point (FPCP), which is determined by the Seat Index Point (SIP) coordinates. The test also evaluates Masking in the specific areas, such as the Visibility Test Circle (at ground level on a 24 m diameter around the machine) and on the Rectangular Boundary (at a specific height based on machine type and its operating mass), effectively simulating real-world conditions. This paper presents a portable setup developed for conducting the Operator’s FOV test, which not only verifies the X and Y coordinates of the seat index point (SIP) but also includes a high-intensity light mechanism to generate masking, as outlined in ISO 5006:2017. The setup is designed to be easily deployable in field conditions during testing, ensuring quick and accurate assessments of visibility and masking in construction equipment vehicles. The system's portable nature makes it adaptable to different vehicle types, allowing for comprehensive testing across various machines. The design is aimed at reducing time spent in testing while maintaining the high accuracy required for ISO-5006:2017 testing. Additionally, this setup will help in improving the safety for construction equipment vehicles / Earth Moving Machinery, offering a cost-effective solution for field testing.
