Design and Development of the Shear Blade for the JD743 Tree Harvester

This paper describes the methods and logic used to develop the tree shear blades on the JD743 Tree Harvester. Major emphasis is given to the techniques used to develop a simple, representative load cycle and how that load cycle was utilized with several evaluation methods. The coordinated use of numerical analysis and experimental measurement techniques is discussed as it was applied to reduce the time and expense required to develop the shear blade.
