The design and development of a heavy duty diesel engine for the People's Republic of China is described. Details of engine construction, development and durability testing are given, and the derivation of variants for specific applications is embraced.
The engine is of 1 litre/cylinder (100 × 125 ram) and 3, 4 and 6 cylinder versions have been built. Both naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions have been developed, together with a range of rated speeds, to provide a power range of 37-118 kW.
A NEW HEAVY DUTY DIESEL ENGINE FAMILY - was required by the People's Republic of China to power a new range of products for domestic use and export.
Ricardo Consulting Engineers carried out the concept design of the engine range and detailed design and development, of two four cylinder versions. All engines are of 100 × 125 mm bore and stroke and employ a direct injection combustion system.
