DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE 580K LOADER/BACKHOE
The 580K represents the most extensive redesign of a 580 series loader backhoe since the introduction of this series in 1966. This paper will discuss the major objectives of this redesign, and the test program required to demonstrate design integrity and reliability.
Initial product definition and design development of the 580K began shortly after the introduction of the 580D at CON-EXPO'81. It has become a tradition at J I Case Company to introduce a new model in the 580 Series concurrent with CON-EXPO, which is held every six (6) years. Among the primary design considerations were a standardized design for worldwide manufacture (J I Case manufacturers loader/backhoes in the U.S., France, Brazil, and Australia), improved performance and specifications for worldwide marketability, extended service intervals and improved accessibility for service, and increased operator comfort and convenience.
