- Fixtures are used for holding the work piece to avoid misalignment and to achieve maximum accuracy in manufacturing. Complex work pieces of the pump such as liquid head, hydraulic manifold, gearbox require fixture. These components are manufactured in VMC (Vertical Machining Center) as well as in HMC (Horizontal Machining Center) and so to avoid loading and unloading time fixtures are designed as per the requirements. To design optimum fixture finite element analysis is to be done considering the machining procedure of the components. Cutting forces and clamping forces are taken into consideration during analysis. Analysis is carried out at different tool positions to calculate the maximum deformation occurred. Keywords: Fixture, clamp, cutting force, clamping force, Machining Center
