This paper provides a perspective regarding Data-Link (DL) and Common-Language Messaging (CLM) which will enhance the ever increasing cross-cultural interaction within the global aviation community. DL and CLM will enhance the Future Air Navigation System, positively affect the economic efficiencies of the world's airlines and coincidentally provide increased airline passenger safety.
An interesting change in philosophy has gained significant credibility within the last decade. Simply stated, it is the genuine concern for an acceptable “Man/Machine Interface” for newly developed systems such as Data Link. Operational issues which affect the flight crew and controller have become so important that human factor considerations are being given very high priorities throughout the design phase of all new technology products and are equally applicable to both new and retrofit aircraft applications.
This document provides insight into a messaging application which would maximize the data-link system benefits.
