In cooperation with J. Wittenburg, Daimler-Benz has developed a mathematical model of the dynamical characteristics of dummies commonly used as measuring devices to test the features in automobiles serving occupant protection.
The mathematical formulation uses the Roberson-Wittenburg-algorithm. In comparison to other algorithms the computing time is very short.
The model is composed of 11 rigid masses with together 30 degrees of freedom. The car has another 6 degrees of freedom.
In the joints act 24 different forces. It was one of the biggest problem first to determine the force-deflection-characteristics and secondly to simulate those characteristics in a suitable way.
