Abstract
Content
Cylinder bore polishing as evidenced by areas of bright mirror finish, can lead to excessive oil consumption, ring and bore scuffing and seizure. It has become a problem of significant concern to manufacturers of high speed diesel engines and tests have shown that choice of lubricant can influence its occurrence. Test results are reported from multi-cylinder production engines and from single cylinder laboratory engines, and progress has been made towards the establishment of a suitable lubricant performance evaluation test method.
