The V-22 dynamic ground loads model was successfully used during the V-22 aircraft drop test for pre-test predictions and to assist in decision making when required. After the test a detailed correlation effort was undertaken to verify the ability of the model to predict loads and aircraft motion. The dynamic loads model was used to simulate several drop test conditions in as accurate and complete a manner as possible using measured rotor lift data as external forces. The time history model results were compared to measured data from the drop tests. The parameters in the correlation effort included the landing gear loads, aircraft motion, aircraft accelerations, and internal wing loads and strains. The correlation between the model and the test results was very good and clearly verified the model’s reliability as a design tool. The results also showed the importance of structural flexibility in determining landing gear performance.
