ABSTRACT

This paper presents a study comparing two different permanent magnet transverse flux generator structures on the basis of numerical calculations using Flux 3D software. Both have the same stator, but the first generator is excited by a surface-mounted permanent magnet (SM-PMTFG) and the second by a concentrated flux permanent magnet (CF-PMTFG). The performance of both structures is calculated numerically in the same conditions. The present study aims at developing high performance devices to be applied to an electro-thermal system for helicopter blade anti-icing/de-icing. Generator characteristics (back electromotive force (EMF), Voltage, Current, Power) calculated by the software are validated with experimental values measured using two prototypes of the SM-PMTFG.
