When a number of large diameter pipelines were planned for construction in the Arctic, it became apparent that a welding shelter system would be needed to maintain a tight work schedule.
The Pioneer Weld-Plex, which is the proposed name of the vehicle, would not only be helpful in the extreme coldness and storm conditions of the Arctic, but it would also be useful when work in the dark would be necessary.
It could also provide shelter and facilities for six men, and would enable the workers to start their machinery in any type of weather conditions.
