Authors Abstract
Content
This paper is a case history of computer aided manufacturing and engineering at The Ingersoll Milling Machine Company in Rockford, Illinois. This paper shows the decisions and procedures that Ingersoll went through in order to implement computer aided manufacturing. The paper also explains the manufacturing process and how Ingersoll's Flexible Manufacturing System fits into the process.
Computer aided engineering is one area where engineering analysis fits into the design phase of the engineering process. Finite element analysis is performed on customer workpieces in order to optimize the mechanical designs of the production machinery for use in the customer's plant. The finite element analysis process and other computer aided engineering tools are also discussed.
