This research describes application to motorcycle development of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology. Here we will present a case of the use of simulation in engine cooling and cowling design. The flow pattern of coolant around motorcycle cylinders and in the head was investigated using CFD and a simple visualization method. The results demonstrated that numerical simulation can be used effectively in the early stages of motorcycle design. The airflow pattern around motorcycles was also investigated using CFD. Comparison of the results with those of wind tunnel testing showed that numerical simulation can be also used effectively in the early stages of motorcycle design.
