- Shell structures are frequently used in aeronautics, pressure vessels and auto industries. The objective of this paper is to develop a general computer program which can analyze complex shell structures efficiently. The advantage when compared to existing finite element or finite difference method is a substantial reduction in input data preparation and CPU time to a specified level of accuracy. A reduction in dependence on user judgement is also gained. The scheme developed here is uniformly valid over the entire shell region and accurately depicts the subtle, complicated behavior near the edges. The Reissner equations of the thin shell theory for axisymmetric deformation are utilized for the analysis of the general axisymmetric shell structure.
