- A survey is given on numerical methods originated in the aeronautical field and being actually in use for calculating the flow fields around car configurations and in engines. It covers panel methods for potential flow in coupling with three-dimensional boundary layer methods, inviscid Euler methods including also coupling with boundary layer methods, and numerical methods solving the complete viscous Navier-Stokes equations for turbulent flow. Applications are presented and capabilities and limitations are discussed in detail.
