Major components in the primary load path of a rotor drive system have been designed in composite materials and evaluated by test. Advantages of composites include a 20-percent weight reduction, as well as the ability to selectively stiffen structural load paths and increase damage tolerance. It is believed that techniques to reduce fabrication cost must be developed to apply these advantages more fully.
