Authors Abstract
Content
Airlines have successfully employed engine monitoring to reduce cost of ownership. Expectations for new engines are leading to in-built, comprehensive instrumentation coupled with more sophisticated data analysis on the ground.
Prime motivators for monitoring are reduced costs of operation, improved maintenance procedures and workshop utilisation and enhanced visibility of fleet/engine condition and operation. These depend in part on accurate gas path performance analysis and trending and diagnosis to module level. Mechanical condition functions also contribute by monitoring/trending changes in rotor balance, oil and other system parameters.
