- Experiments were conducted to determine the effect of turbine inlet temperature and intake manifold volume on turbocharger/engine response. Then with what is believed to be an optimized turbocharger installation, the performance characteristics of an exhaust turbocharged engine are compared to a mechanically supercharged engine during both steady state and transient operation. Also, an analytical procedure is presented that predicts the steady state, wide open throttle performance improvement of a turbocharged or supercharged engine, with or without an intercooler, over a naturally aspirated engine.
