- Rear Collision Warning (RCW) and Rear Emergency Braking (REB) are key Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designed to prevent collisions with Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) when a vehicle is reversing. These systems typically rely on a combination of radar, ultrasonic, and camera sensors. This study provides a comparative evaluation of Rear Collision Prevention systems across different vehicle manufacturers. Testing was performed on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade, 2017 Subaru Outback, and 2021 Ford F-150, using both static and moving pedestrian targets. Data collection was carried out with a VBOX data acquisition system, focusing on time-to-collision (TTC) as the primary performance metric. The analysis highlights variations in system effectiveness and provides a brief overview of OEMs' approach to pedestrian safety.
