Abstract
Content
A compact electronically controlled rotary diesel fuel injection pump, capable of generating injection pressures of 150 MPa+, is being developed by Lucas Diesel Systems for high speed direct injection engines which meet the proposed EuroIII emissions regulations. A novel servo spill control is used to provide rapid pressure collapse enabling fast termination of injection to be achieved. Spilled fuel is stored within the rotor to minimise the demands on the twin chamber transfer pump. A pump control unit is mounted on the body of the pump and adjusts the pump operating characteristics in response to commands from the engine controller.
