The engineering level of commercial vehicle engines in Korea has
recently reached at the stage of designing and developing process
for the major parts as a result of the government's policy and
guidance for promotion of engineering development and tighter
control of air pollution.
The production capacity of commercial vehicle engines was about
150,000 units and the actual production was 106,000 units at the
end of 1984. The rate of diesel engine production was about 90%
from actual production result.
Since July, 1984, supplementary emission regulations have been
added to the existing smoke regulations for diesel engines, and it
seems to be more tighter in future.
In this article, the author surveyed the present and future
status of commercial vehicle engines in Korea (mostly diesel
engines) and observe some current tasks and engineering development
prospect to improve the quality of the engines
