- To address the requirements of high thermal efficiency and strict thermal control for high altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as the problems of large additional water load and difficult high altitude condensation in traditional steam injected cycle aero engines, this paper proposes a closed loop steam injected cycle liquid hydrogen solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine hybrid power system, which uses the cryogenic energy of liquid hydrogen fuel and external high altitude ram air to realize the condensation, collection and reuse of water vapor. This paper establishes a coupled thermodynamic and aerodynamic model, evaluates the benefits of the steam injected cycle at the design point, and analyzes the thermodynamic and aerodynamic characteristics of the system under off design conditions. The results show that the closed loop steam injected cycle effectively improves the work capacity of the turbine and the power generation efficiency of the system. At the design point, the rated net output power and power generation efficiency of the system reach one thousand two hundred and fifteen point zero kilowatts and sixty-six point two eight percent respectively. In addition, the system recovers kinetic energy by using the Meredith effect, which greatly offsets the aerodynamic drag caused by the introduction of ram air. Even when the flight speed exceeds Mach number zero point six four, the system can completely offset the aerodynamic drag and even generate additional thrust. Power margin analysis proves that the system still has sufficient power reserve to complete the flight mission under cruise conditions. This study provides a theoretical basis for the power and thermal control design of high altitude long endurance hydrogen powered unmanned aerial vehicles.
