- A typical open-center and three closed-center hydraulic systems (constant pressure, feathered pump and load-sensitive systems) are compared. No one is found to have advantages in every category (pump life, valve metering capacity, power loss and hardware cost). Selection of an optimum system for a particular vehicle requires careful analysis of vehicle functions and duty cycles.
