Authors Abstract
Content
The study of the impact of advanced high strength steels on stamping automotive structural components has been the Auto/Steel Partnership High Strength Steel Forming Project Team's focus. Stamping experiments involving several grades of dual phase steel have been conducted on a structural rail and a cross-car member. The trials were conducted on tooling capable of running both a form and draw process and on a press instrumented to record through-the-stroke press tonnage. This paper describes how dual phase material grade was found to affect press tonnage and the tonnage requirements for a form process relative to a draw process.
