This paper addresses the critical aspect of interior noise quality in electric vehicles (EVs), focusing on the characterization and prediction methodologies employed during drive unit end-of-line testing. The electric drive unit plays a pivotal role in determining the overall Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) quality of the final product. This study explores the impact of drive unit assembly process variation and individual component tolerance on the NVH characteristics of electric drive units, emphasizing their direct effect on overall vehicle acoustic quality and customer comfort. The research delves into the intricate relationship between drive unit vibrational response, vehicle interior noise, and customer subjective perception, providing valuable insights into their correlation and how they collectively influence user experience and satisfaction. It aims to enhance the understanding of how electric drive unit characteristics contribute significantly to the interior noise quality of electric vehicles, showcasing the effective utilization of drive unit end-of-line testing (EOLT) to deliver a noise-concern-free product. Simultaneously, the study identifies critical manufacturing process and component quality risks, emphasizing the need for strategic improvements to minimize drive unit scrap and reduce overall production costs. The findings contribute to the advancement of NVH quality assessment methodologies in electric vehicles, facilitating the development of targeted strategies to optimize manufacturing processes and ensure consistent product quality across the board. Ultimately, this research aims to foster significant improvements in the overall interior noise quality of electric vehicles, thereby enhancing the driving experience and long-term satisfaction for customers, making EVs more appealing in a highly competitive automotive market. This research thus serves as a vital resource for manufacturers seeking to improve their products.
