Abstract
Content
A method has been developed in MSC.Dytran to simulate CFD deployment of multi-compartmented air bags, using multiple, fully automatic, adaptive Euler domains. This paper summarizes the numerical methods used, and results will be given for several examples, including a folded passenger side air bag, and a folded side curtain air bag.
It will be demonstrated that this new method allows an accurate simulation of the deployment of multi-compartmented air bags, using full CFD for each compartment. It will also be demonstrated that the CPU time is such that integration into the design phase is possible, which is important for the new OOP requirements in FMVS 208.
