Soon after World War II, Societd Breguet of Paris, France; began studies of high-lift systems utilizing the deflected slipstream concept for STOL aircraft designs. The efforts produced, in 1957, a 15,000-1b. experimental flying aircraft, designated the Breguet 940. Four turbine engines, of 400 horsepower each, powered. four propeller's linked by a cross-shaft. This interconnection was intended to avoid the large roll and yaw asymmetry during an engine-out condition, and during normal conditions, to provide additional basic benefits in improved flying qualities and improved operational characteristics. These cross-shaft benefits are more fully described in Reference 1.
