Bearing Life Expenditure During Running-In

Experimental results are presented showing that total bearing wear during running-in, as well as running-in distance depend on the initial roughness R_αo of the journal. Curves based on the above results are plotted, which give a measure of the bearing life expenditure for running-in, and which can be used to obtain optimum values of journal roughness for minimizing the bearing life expenditure.
