AW189 Engine Off Landing Certification by Simulation

This paper presents the certification by piloted simulation of the Engine Off Landing manoeuver for the AW189 helicopter, i.e. the use of the mathematical model and the flight mechanics simulator laboratory with pilot in the loop in order to develop and demonstrate to the Certification Authority the capability of the helicopter to perform a safe landing after the failure of all the engines without requiring exceptional piloting skills, within the helicopter structural design and operative boundaries.
