- The development of advanced aircraft with reduced stability and a ‘Fly-by-Wire’ control sysyem requires the provision of an uninterrupted supply of hydraulic and electrical power. In addition, the need to operate these aircraft from rudementary airfields necissitates the provision of an on board Auxiliary Power Unit for engine starting and to supply ground power when the main engine is not running. This paper describes an Auxiliary and Emergency Power System which integrates these requirements with a remotely mounted digitally controlled unit. A detailed description of its design and operation is given together with a discussion of its rols in future aircraft.
