Abstract
Content
To define the term "technical stylist" we must first relate to the field of automobile design or styling. Design is a vague term. It means "to execute" or "to fashion". Fashion suggests style and styling is the art of giving distinctive character and beauty to an object. Of course we all know that the word "technical" pertains to the more detailed scientific or mechanical nature of anything. Hence, the term "technical stylist"--one who possesses the aesthetics of design, yet is knowledgeable in the technical aspects of engineering.
It is my intention, therefore, to point out the importance of this position to those who may be forming or expanding automobile design studios by giving you a brief history and origin of the technical stylist and the roll he or she plays in today's design team
