Based on knowledge and experience gained in applying operations research and analysis techniques to produce sorting system designs for parcel post (railroad and post office), express, and truck terminals, the author describes and illustrates applications of the same and related technique to the problems of the air cargo terminal.
Salient points covered are (1) data requirements, (2) determining the optimum degree of automation, (3) time sharing (a basis of design), (4) terminal facility requirements, and (5) payback.
