- This paper discusses the methodology and techniques, which are used to investigate and reduce noise generation by gearbox. The aim of this paper is to investigate the root causes and to eliminate a uniquely identified gear noise. Steps presented illustrate a logical process, which begins with identification of gear whistle frequency of a two-wheeler gearbox through narrow band analysis and subsequent elimination by design improvement. The specific examples discussed here involve the successful elimination of an intolerable high dB (A) whistle noise produced by gearbox.
