Machine Qualification (MQ) is an opportunity to incorporate statistical methods for company wide continuous improvement into that business's operational practices.
Three points are required to insure successful implementation and longevity in a MQ process application.
  • First is applicability of the process being dependent on some combination of Machines, Manpower, and/or Material interaction.
  • Second is the organizational issues of need, structure, and functions for the total unit and all individuals within it.
  • Finally, solid basic statistical methods set into a process which supports and integrates them into the operating culture.
The critical realization surrounding MQ is that statistics will provide superior direction through data of what was, is, and will be; however, only people can analyze, act, and accept ownership for change. This paper places in perspective the tools required to address the people and technical issues for implementing a MQ process.
