Modern passenger vehicles may have several chassis control devices influencing vehicle dynamics. The software that controls these devices may have to be changed many times throughout a development, sometimes significantly. For a variety of reasons, these software changes need to be confirmed before being applied to a test vehicle. One effective method of verifying the software logic, or confirming the implementation of a change, is the utilization of Hardware in the Loop Simulation (HILS). This paper presents methods that utilize HILS to confirm specification application, validate changes, and develop new chassis control strategies. Detailed examples are provided and described.
