- This paper presents a set of procedures that the stress analyst can use in laying out a finite element grid such that a near optimum mesh of elements will result. These grids lead to marked improvement in the displacement and stress estimates, especially in high gradient regions. Examples are given of direct application to problems encountered in automotive stress analysis.
