Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods have been used for the Bell Helicopter M429 design and simulation. Because of cost and weight objectives for this vehicle, aerodynamic solutions must be developed in a timely manner within stringent constraints. CFD methods are being used to satisfy these requirements while providing new aerodynamic design solutions. This paper will describe some of the applications of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methods during the design of the Bell 429 helicopter.
