This paper discusses the development and use of advanced modeling techniques for handling qualities simulations at Sikorsky Aircraft. In recent years, Sikorsky has added a number of advanced features to its handling qualities models to increase their fidelity. These upgrades include a high order Peters and He finite stale induced velocity model, an elastic blade model with provisions for a redundant load path at the root, a blade dynamic stall model and an elastic driveshaft model for the existing engine/drivetrain simulation. These upgrades support both GenHel and FLIGHTLAB simulation environments. The rationale for making these upgrades is discussed, their development is reviewed, and comparisons of the old and new simulations are provided. These improvements were added to the existing simulations with a minimum of effort because of their modular nature, which also allows for back-to-back comparisons of the old and new models.
