Apache Block III Participation in the On-The-Move Field Exercise

An Apache helicopter configured with the Block III mission processing architecture participated in a Product Manager Command Control Communications Computers Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (PM C4ISR) On-The-Move Event 2009 (OTM E09) field exercise operating out of the Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES), Fort Dix, McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey Joint Megabase in the summer of 2010. The helicopter included the latest version of the Open Systems Gateway (OSGW) that provides the capability to adapt to multiple digital network protocols and multiple radio systems to the platform internal data structures. The Apache communicated with ground elements over Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW), Wideband Network Waveform (WNW), and Common Data Link (CDL) protocols using Ku-, S-, UHF-, and L-band radios. The radios included: Boeing Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Surrogate Radio (JSR) for WNW, L-3 Communications TCDL radio, and ITT SLICE POD radio for SRW. The aircraft streamed MPEG2 video, exchanged Cursor-on-Target messages including JPEG images, and exchanged Variable Message format messages.
