The paper presents a methodology for the analytical simulation of two Mission-Task-Elements (MTE) of the ADS-33 helicopter handling qualities specification, namely, the Pullup/Pushover and the Roll Reversal maneuvers. The maneuvers are studied as inverse simulation problems, by placing a flight dynamic simulation model inside a numerical optimization loop. The design variables describe the time histories of the pilot inputs, either as piecewise linear polynomials or a series of cubic splines. Objective functions and constraints are based on the requirements of ADS-33 for each MTE. The methodology can help assess compliance with the quantitative requirements of ADS-33, and can complement pilot-in-the-loop simulations and flight tests. Depending on how the methodology is applied, it can also be useful to assess the effect of design parameters of the helicopter on the compliance with the specifications.
