- This report deals with a fuel injection system for spark ignition engines that has the potential to reduce the cost of the well known mechanical/hydraulic systems significantly by avoiding precision engineering and instead using straightforward and proven carburetor technology. Furthermore, by using compressed air in this air forced injection (AFI) system, excellent hot and cold starting can be expected. After briefly describing the fundamental problems concerning metering, preparation, transport, and distribution of the air fuel mixture and those of the two phase flow a description of the AFI system for a small displacement spark ignition engine is given.
