Aerodynamics of the Helicopter World Speed Record

The aerodynamic content of the Westland Lynx Helicopter World Speed Record is outlined and in particular the performance of the BERP main rotor and powerplant installation are discussed. Torque reaction and aircraft trim considerations are outlined along with airframe drag reduction efforts. Comparisons of rotor loads and overall aircraft performance with theory are shown.
