Authors Abstract
Content
This paper discusses two advances in sinterbrazed torque transfer components: a P/M Reduction Hub that replaced one made of wrought steel, and an “Optimized” P/M Reduction Carrier that reduced the part's weight by 25%. The process and advantages of sinterbrazing are described. The design goals and methods used to achieve them are explained. Extensive computer modeling, laboratory testing, and field studies were conducted to validate the designs and are presented. This paper aims to demonstrate how existing products can be dramatically improved through the creative application of well-accepted manufacturing processes.
