Advanced Composite Use Experiences: The Basis for Future Applications

The expanded application of advanced composites to subsonic and supersonic commercial aircraft structure is discussed. Engineering, manufacturing and maintainability issues which could be obstacles to realization of the full advantages of advanced composites are identified and needed advances in technology are presented. Environmental stewardship and workplace health and safety issues which could impact increased usage are highlighted.
