ACAP Crashworthiness Analysis By KRASH

The Army/Sikorsky Advanced Composite Airframe Program (ACAP) includes the design, manufacture, and flight demonstration of a helicopter with a fuselage of advanced composite materials together with the flight dynamic components of the Sikorsky S-76 civil helicopter. It's purpose is to demonstrate the technological advancement achievable with these materials using new structural design concepts to make efficient use of their strength and producability character- istics. The primary components under development are the airframe and landing gear. Although advanced composite materials are used only in the airframe, the landing gear is included in this discussion because of its importance in helping to meet the stringent requirements for crash energy absorption in survivable crash impacts.
