The full scale development of LAMPS showed that one of the keys to the successful completion of development on schedule was the application of discipline and structure to the integration and test process. Certain elements of this approach such as; an audit of the system specification for testability, use of a detailed test requirements data base, and the design of tests for efficiency, were found to be unusual and interesting produc­tivity enhancements to the integration and test process. LAMPS experience showed the following benefits from the use of these three methods. Major difficulties during the program can be avoided by a timely review of the system specifi­cation to ensure that ·the requirement statements are verifiable by reasonable means. Defining, planning, and executing a large integration and test program can be made easier by exploiting the capabilities of a computer data base to organize the detailed information required to implement the program. The use of designed tests can improve data collection productivity, especially during expensive flight tests.
