Content
The so-called ‘Oberst’ method is a widespread and very popular method to provide objective measurements of noise and vibration attenuation properties of damping materials, especially in the automotive industry, where a large amount of those materials are used to produce more silent and comfortable cars. A software program has been realized, to control the FFT analyzer carrying out the measurements, post-process the data and give a summary of the results. An alternative method, based on the Hilbert Transform, may be used for an increased level of confidence. An example is provided, where the results of the classical method show an error of 200%, whereas the alternative method pinpoints the cause of the problem.
