- A good assistance to the braking action is one of the foundamental characteristic that a production automobile must have. The drum brake always required a limited effort on the pedal in order to obtain a strong braking momentum. The drum brake, however, is difficult to cool and this shortcoming more then offsets its benefits. A disk brake, on the other hand, ensures the dispersion of a considerable amount of heat and may be used in heavy duty. An obstacle to the spread of its use is the lack of a booster effect that that might reduce the effort on the pedal. A modified disk brake is proposed in this paper. Its caliper is designed in order to achieve a booster effect. The experimental results obtained with a prototype are shown.
