A Review Of Turbine Engine Vibration Criteria For VTOL Aircraft

There are no industry-wide standards for, measuring vibrations in turboshaft engines, or for establishing acceptable vibration limits. Each engine manufacturer has established standards which his own engines must meet, but these typically do not appear to take into account the VTOL environment. Furthermore, the standards of one manufacturer are based upon methods of measurement and analysis which are exclusively his. Those of all other manufacturers are sufficiently different that comparisons between different engines and the selection of an engine for a particular airframe are very difficult to make.
